At Jamila + Juliette, we believe love is love and are committed to serving everyone, regardless of sexual orientation. When Ecuador legalized same-sex marriage in 2019, we were thrilled! Since then, our country has become one of the top destinations for gay and lesbian couples to tie the knot. Keep reading to discover how we facilitate LGBTQ+ weddings in Ecuador for our clients. We’re also sharing Ahmad and Moe’s beautiful love story and the details from their Quito wedding!

Intimate Wedding at the Hotel Dann Carlton Quito

Ahmad and Moe met in Lebanon while Ahmad was visiting his home country from Canada. He spotted Moe in a restaurant and fell in love at first sight! He asked Moe for his number, and the two began a long-distance relationship shortly afterward. The couple quickly knew they wanted to marry each other, but the pandemic delayed their plans. Finally, once it was safe, they began researching destinations where they could have a legal ceremony before Moe joined Ahmad in Canada. That was how they found Jamila + Juliette!

We provided wedding planning and floral design services for Ahmad and Moe’s wedding. We also managed all the legal paperwork before and afterward. Initially, the couple felt worried that Ecuador wasn’t a safe destination for same-sex couples. So, we helped them book their wedding reception at a top-rated hotel, the Dann Carlton, to assuage their fears. However, once they were here, they quickly found the Ecuadorian people welcomed them with open arms!

Ahmad and Moe exchanged vows in an emotional ceremony at the Registro Civil before attending their intimate reception at the hotel. We surprised them with a celebratory mariachi band on their return! Guests came to celebrate the couple from Lebanon, Jordan, Canada, and the U.S., and the atmosphere was full of love and joy. The décor was elegant and modern, with lush velvet linens, moody black accents, and plenty of floral details. We also incorporated touches of the couple’s Lebanese heritage.

How We Facilitate LGBTQ+ Weddings in Ecuador

If you’re considering choosing Ecuador as your wedding destination, we want to assure you that you can have a legal same-sex ceremony here! You can then have the ceremony validated in your home country, like Ahmad and Moe. Jamila + Juliette has extensive experience working with legal marriage officiants here and will help you find the right person to help you take this exciting step together. We’ll also take care of all the legal paperwork before and afterward so you can focus on celebrating with each other and your guests!

For a legal, same-sex marriage ceremony in Ecuador, you will need:

  1. A single status certificate with an apostille, translated into Spanish by a certified translator.
  2. A valid passport. Each copy should include an apostille and be translated into Spanish by a certified translator.
  3. Proof of valid entrance into Ecuador.

And that’s it! From there, we do all the hard work on your behalf, reviewing the documents and meeting with a judge. We’ll also book the date and hour of your ceremony and hire a simultaneous translator for the wedding day if one is needed.

Kind Words From Ahmad and Moe

We could not have asked for better wedding planners! Planning a wedding abroad is not easy because you are not there, but with great wedding planners like Assyah and José, we weren’t worried at all. They listened to what we needed and what mattered to us. We could feel how much they cared about making it a special day! They also dealt with all our needs during our stay and the legalities of registering our wedding. This service meant a lot to us because we required completed paperwork for Moe to join me in my country.
